Food Drive Hauls-in the Goods

A holiday-season food drive for the Bellevue Community Food Bank concluded on December 4 with 20 carts of groceries and nearly $1000 in cash collected.

By all accounts this year’s drive, which took place at the Food Bank’s home at Bellevue United Methodist Church, was a resounding success.

“We have so many donations that we can’t leave a cart out at the church (for daily drop offs) right now,” says Food Bank coordinator, Robin Dillon. “We do have additional needs but we won’t be able to accept food donations until January. That’s a good problem to have.”

The drive was the culmination of an annual effort by Bellevue civic organizations that include Arts Bellevue, BELL Garden, Bellevue Community Foundation, Bellevue Harpeth Chamber of Commerce, Bellevue Harpeth Historic Association and Exchange Club of Bellevue. Production and coordination of the event were carried out by the Food Bank’s “awesome core group of volunteers,” according to Dillon.

The Bellevue Community Food Bank serves individuals and families in need who reside in ZIP codes 37221, 37209, 37205, 37143 and 37062. In December the Food Bank will distribute non-perishable holiday fare and will use the cash on hand to purchase hams for holiday meals. Nearly 500 people receive assistance from the Food Bank each month.

Donations are still being accepted but by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, contact Dillon at 615.212.9199 or foodbank@bumc.com. Calls are returned within one hour.
